Happy Mother's Day!! What a wonderful day it was.... I started the day with a cup of hot coffee, the newspaper and Diana Krall; it was so peaceful! The kiddos woke up and there started a new kind of peaceful. They played, cried, whined, hung on me, hit each other, told on each other, stole each other's toys, shared their toys with each other, played INSIDE of the toy basket... all of the things kids always do. But today was different. I was looking at all of the chaos through my rose colored mommy glasses. Today I was grateful for it all! I am so lucky to have such wonderful kids and such a wonderful family. It absolutely melted my heart when Carter came rushing up the stairs to tell me "hafy mufders day"!!
With this being Mother's Day, I can't help to think about my own mom. This is the first Mother's Day I've spent without her. I dug out an album my mom put together for me and just flipped through the pages, taking in each picture. It was really nice to take a trip down memory lane, but painful also. I miss her so much. It hurts not being able to wish her a Happy Mother's Day. Every holiday that comes and goes, I find myself imagining what she would say if she were to call me and wish me well for the holiday at hand. Like my birthday, I imagined her singing (like she did every year) the very second I answered the phone - "ya say its your birthday, dana-nah-nah-na-na" - yes, the "dana-nah"'s and all!! :) I miss you Mom - so, so much. It wasn't until I had my own kids that I understood the kind of love you must have had for us.
